When it comes to hospice care and home health care, it’s easy to get the two confused. While both are intended to keep seniors comfortable in their late years of life, they are used for different reasons.
Here are some things to know about hospice care and home health care, and how they may be helpful for the senior in your life.
Hospice care
Hospice care is generally used for those who are nearing the end of their life, with a prognosis of less than 6 months to live. The goal of hospice care is to keep patients as comfortable as possible by supporting their emotional and spiritual needs.
Hospice care can be given to those who live at home, in a care facility, or in a hospital. Each individual may feel inclined to a different setting of hospice care, so it is essentially up to them and their family on which setting works best for them.
Home health care
Home health care is typically used for patients who need help with routine tasks, such as running errands, cooking, and with personal hygiene.
This service allows individuals to remain living at home with support managing tasks they may not find as easy to do on their own as they age.
While both services provide the individual with the comfort, support, and assistance they need, they are used during different time periods of one’s life.
At Advanced Care, we’re able to learn the needs and capabilities of each client we work with to ensure they are getting to do the things they want — and getting help with others they may not be able to handle themselves.

To us, it’s important for seniors to remain comfortable as they actively age. Individuals who opt for home health care have been shown to have an increased life expectancy and are generally more happy about their life.
